This list of mom podcast episodes honors some amazing mothers and the love they have for their children.
Today is my mom's birthday. Like so many birthdays of recent years - hers and mine - we're celebrating from thousands of miles apart. So I have decided to share a list of podcasts about moms; something digital, that will reach people a million miles away.
If I were making a podcast about my mom, I would share the following tid-bits and anecdotes:
- She has fabulous handwriting
- She would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need
- She has a sneeze that can shake the rafters in any building
- She loves all of her children and grandchildren with the type of motherly love that people write books (and blog posts) about
- She's very particular about the way towels should be folded (ALL towels, of any shape or size)
- She and I once broke into giggles in church for a full 5 minutes and it's still one of my favorite memories ever
- She's an amazing hostess who goes above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome and cared for
- She can make a bed like the best Army soldier
- She gives gifts that are both thoughtful and practical
- She loves music, something she passed onto me
- She makes THE best American chop suey and frappes
- She doesn't listen to podcasts or read blogs, but that doesn't stop her from being my #1 fan
I admire all of the above things about my mom. When my husband says, "You sound JUST like your mom!" I don't take offense.
When my mom and I are together, I often find myself standing or sitting in the exact same position as her. For us, a perfect night spent together would include popcorn and ice cream for dinner while snuggling under a blanket.
I'm tempted to include my all-time favorite photo of my family, but my mom HATES that photo, so in honor of her birthday, I will refrain. (You're welcome, Mom.)
If I were making a podcast about my mom, I'd probably get a little teary and sentimental just talking about her; I totally get that from her.
Here are some actual mom podcast episodes. They pay tribute to, and celebrate, maternal love, sacrifices made by moms, and advice handed down to us kids.
Mom Podcast Episodes That Touch the Heart
Unconditional by Strangers
Don't let the first few minutes of this episode of the Strangers podcast fool you; it's a touching story about a mother's love. It's actually about two mothers, and their separate versions of unconditional love for the same daughter.
I chocked back tears while listening to this one. It also made me long for more episodes of Strangers, which is not currently in production.

Overfed on a Mother's Affection by Modern Love
This sweet episode from the Modern Love podcast speaks to a mother's instinct to feed and clothe her child, even when that child is a fully-capable adult. Because: that's what moms do.
I love this episode because it rings true for me. Both my own mom and my mother-in-law take joy and pride in feeding their families. I also love the illustration for this episode (and all of Modern Love's episodes).

Pearls from Jesse's mom by Pearls from My Mom
The entire premise of the Pearls from My Mom podcast is a tribute to moms. Each episode features a different guest who tells their mom's story. The show aims to keep each mom's legacy alive, and pass on her special pearls of wisdom.
This episode is the first in the podcast's run, in which the show's creator, Jesse, talks about her late mother, Margie.

The Bride Price by Terrible, Thanks for Asking
This episode of Terrible, Thanks for Asking thoughtfully tells both sides of a disagreement between a mother and daughter.
Like the other episodes in this list, it'll make you re-think the assumptions and ideas we tend to have about our mothers (and fathers).

Mums and Sons by Seriously...
This episode of Seriously... is a sweet compilation about mothers ("mums", because it's by the BBC) and sons. It's told through the lens of creative projects that mums and sons work on together, that were inspired by a mum, or that celebrate the love of a mum.
I really like how many different stories were blended together in this half hour episode.

Generations of Wanderlust: A Conversation with My 82-Year-Old Grandmother by The Budget-Minded Traveler
This episode is a little different from the others in this list. It's actually a little different from the rest of the episodes of The Budget-Minded Traveler podcast. It's an interview with the host's grandmother. In it, she tells much of her life story, a lot of which has to do with travel.
When thinking about which episodes to include in this article, this one immediately sprang to mind. Jackie's grandmother is spunky and funny, and you can hear Jackie's love and admiration for her come through. This episode made me smile.

Honorable Mention
Check out Episode #148 of The Longest Shortest Time, titled The Handoff. In this episode, outgoing host, Hilary, and incoming host, Andrea, discuss their lives and thoughts on motherhood. They also call each other's moms, who gush about their respective daughters (again, because this is what mothers do).
