5 Storytelling Podcasts for fans of the Mortified PodcastFans of the Mortified Podcast will love these other storytelling podcasts to listen to! Get ready to be surprised and delighted by these stories; some are funny, some are touching, all are told by some very brave people!

I was super happy a few months ago when, while browsing through Amazon video options, my husband agreed to watch Mortified Nation, a screen-adapted version of the Mortified podcast.

Having been a fan of Mortified for so long, I was excited to finally introduce him to live storytelling podcasts.

In this world of highly-produced podcasts - with hosts, editors, and perfectly crafted stories - it's easy to forget that there are regular people out there who are exceptionally skilled at re-telling the most embarrassing or important moments in their lives.

I'm always astonished at the bravery of the people who stand up at Mortified events. Honestly, I cringe at the idea of reading my old diaries and letters to myself; reading them aloud to other people is my idea of torture.

I suppose that's one of the things that makes the Mortified podcast - and the other storytelling podcasts that I've recommended below - so intriguing to listen to. They remind me that I'm not the only one to have gone through awkward, confusing, and embarrassing situations in life.

I've listened to a lot of shows that claim to be like Mortified, but the list below is truly my favorite for fans of storytelling podcasts.

Grownups Read Things They Wrote As Kids Podcast

Someone will probably yell at me for calling this "the Canadian version of Mortified", but it pretty much is. If you just can't get enough Mortified, this podcast is the most similar.

The stories are recorded live on-stage in Canada, and there are over 600 episodes to binge through!

Like "the US version", the episode descriptions for Grownups Read Things They Wrote As Kids give you just a taste of what you can expect. You really don't know what you're getting yourself into with any episode!

The Story Collider Podcast

Here's a twist on the live storytelling podcast: this one is about science.

I love Story Collider because the stories are all related to science in one way or another. Some are very directly related and obvious; others just touch on how science was involved in an important part of someone's life journey.

If you're not sure if this show is for you, try this episode about new places and fitting in.

The Nocturnists Podcast

Here's another storytelling podcast with a slant: this one features doctors who stand on stage to share the stories that have shaped their lives and careers.

The team behind The Nocturnists say it is rooted in a "deep-seated curiosity about health, illness, and human connection". I think this is a perfect description for what listeners get.

This is a newer podcast compared to those listed above. It's currently in Season 2, but I'm a huge fan already. I recommend the episode titled, Even the Morgue Has a Waiting List.

The Moth Podcast

No list about live storytelling podcasts would be complete without The Moth. They have been doing live events since 1997 (really!).

Unlike the Mortified podcast and some others on this list, contributors at Moth events tell their stories without notes in front of them.

A feature about The Moth's podcast feed that you might love: there are short episodes that average 20 minutes, plus longer "Radio Hour" episodes that average 50 minutes.

10 Things That Scare Me Podcast - one of 5 storytelling podcasts on PodcastManiac.com

10 Things That Scare Me Podcast

This podcast doesn't include recordings from a stage with a live audience, but I don't think that stops the contributors from feeling vulnerable.

10 Things That Scare Me features short episodes (they average 5-8 minutes) in which one person talks about their biggest fears. Sometimes the person will give context in the form of a short story; sometimes they will just quickly rattle off the fears in a list.

If saying your deepest, darkest fears out loud seems uncomfortable (or terrifying) to you, check out the brave souls who have submitted their recordings to this podcast. Episodes drop every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
