I swore I wasn't going to write a blog post about New Year's resolution podcasts.
The first week of January is already half over, EVERYONE is talking about resolutions (I'm on resolution-overload), and the whole idea seems so short-lived. So I figured it would be silly to write a post about podcasts to help you stick to your New Year's resolutions.
But then: I saw a bunch of people online asking for New Year's podcast recommendations. And I saw podcasters dropping links to their New Year's episodes. So I listened to a couple...and they were good. They were kind of what I needed after this long holiday season.
I also remembered a couple great episodes from late-2017 that were actionable and inspirational...
So here I am; pride swallowed and embracing all the great podcast episodes about New Year's resolutions.
Like every year in January, I continue to hear (and read) the same thing over and over again: that only 8% of people actually achieve their resolutions, and that 80% of people fail their resolutions by February.
These stats got me to wondering: how many people even MAKE New Year's resolutions? I didn't find a solid statistic on this, but if I'm like most people (and I like to think I am), then most of us haven't even made resolutions yet! How can I fail by February?!
I've been thinking about both personal and professional goals for 2018, but nothing is on paper. I haven't declared anything yet. I've got two brand new 2018 planners sitting on my desk, blank and empty.
So this post includes podcast episodes to both help you make New Year's resolutions, and keep them, too. Podcast episodes with food for thought on what you want to achieve in 2018, and how you're going to achieve it.
More importantly, these podcasts can help you figure out why you want to achieve those things.
It's not too late to figure out what you want to achieve this year. This statement is true during the first week of January, and the last week of November. Maybe I'll re-post it in June, as a reminder to reassess and evaluate your progress!
Happy New Year to all of you. Happy listening, and happy achieving!

Bodaciously Awesome Family Show
This New Year's resolution episode was my first time listening to this podcast, but I LOVED it.
The podcast is hosted by a dad and his two sons, and all three of them are adorable and entertaining.
I'm totally on board with the idea behind this episode: making Fun Year's resolutions instead of New Year's resolution. (Side note: a few years back I made a fun resolution to do something "photo worthy" every month, which gave me 12 cool experiences and photos of them.)
Even if you've made your goals for 2018, go listen to this funny podcast episode. Especially if you like tacos.

Afford Anything
"Just because someone asks for something doesn't mean you have to give it."
That's my favorite quote from this episode of Afford Anything, hosted by Paula Pant. It includes 16 lessons and tips for forming habits, willpower, managing money, prioritizing, and more.
This episode has two parts; the first of which probably won't apply to you, so skip ahead to 26:30 and listen from there.

Harder To Kill
This episode from November features an interview with blogger Beth Manos Brickey, and I think it's perfect for thinking about New Year's resolutions.
Beth is a great example of someone who knew there was something not quite right in her life, so she sat back, got some perspective, and made some changes. She "hit reset".
Beth shares her story, but more importantly, she explains her approach to teaching people how to do what she did. I didn't know a thing about Beth before this interview, but I found her to be clever and thoughtful.

Happier with Gretchen Rubin
If the words "resolution" or "goal" aren't motivating you yet, how about just creating a new "habit"?
In this episode of the uber-popular Happier with Gretchen Rubin podcast, Gretchen and Liz chat about the importance of knowing yourself before you decide on a new habit or resolution, how to start towards your goal, and what to do when you're not achieving what you want.
There are lots of helpful tips and tricks in this episode, but the best part is that Gretchen gives great examples for each tip.

Good Life Project
Host Jonathan Fields takes the reins on 2018 with this January 1 episode all about "success scaffolding".
You'll be walked through the framework that he says you need to build in order to achieve your goals. Fields says that you can't just read a blog post or listen to a podcast about how to lose 10 pounds; you have to create an action plan, environment, and community to get you there.
The episode goes at a nice relaxed pace (like most episodes of the Good Life Project podcast) so you won't feel rushed into learning the process or steps needed to accomplish your goals.
