Podcasting Books & Journals

So You Want to Start a Podcast

For individuals who are thinking about starting a podcast, or who are just getting started, this book by professional podcaster Kristen Meinzer is the perfect thing. In So You Want to Start a Podcast, Meinzer walks newbie podcasters through the important questions to ask before they start a podcast.

The Podcast Journal: Idea to Launch in 50 Days

Making a podcast is a process, and lots of podcasters need accountability and a place to chart their progress. This podcast journal is both a How To guide and a progress journal in one. (It's also

Profitable Podcasting: Grow Your Business, Expand Your Platform, and Build a Nation of True Fans

This book is more than just a book on how to make a podcast. It's also guide to making a podcast to support your existing business. Whether you own a mom & pop shop or run an online business, podcasting might be a way to build your client base and increase sales, and this book explains it all.

Online podcast classes (for beginner & intermediate podcasters)

Beginner and intermediate podcasters will love a CreativeLive class or subscription.

CreativeLive's podcast courses are video-based and taught by people like Alex Blumberg (founder of podcast company Gimlet) and Julie Shapiro (Executive Producer at Radiotopia).

The podcast course topics include things like how to create a blueprint for a podcast, how to distribute and grow a podcast, how to book guests, the art of the interview, and how to mixing and sound design.

If you know a podcaster, they will LOVE you for gifting them podcast courses from CreativeLive. Also check out their free online course schedule for yourself!

Podcasting Kits & Microphones

Beginner Podcast Kit

I know I said that you don't have to know anything about podcast equipment, and that's true! But if you really want to help get someone started on their podcasting journey, you need a highly-reviewed and recommended option.

This podcast kit on Amazon has some of the best reviews for the money. There's also a video for how to set it up, which looks SO. EASY. This is a great podcast starter kit to check out.

Microphone upgrade

You don't have to know A THING about microphones (and neither do I) to see that this one is highly praised. I've heard a lot about Yeti microphones (not the coolers!) and this one has over 7,300 reviews on Amazon (with a 4.5 star rating!) It even comes in 13 different colors!

If you're looking for a gift for a podcaster who has been wanting to get a new mic, this is a safe bet!

Podcaster T-shirts

There are so many fun podcaster t-shirts out there. When you buy a t-shirt for a podcaster, he or she will wear it out in the world, and people will stop and ask them, "What's your podcast about?"

There's probably nothing cooler than that to a podcaster (besides someone saying, "OMG, I love your show!")

Check out some of my fave t-shirts for podcasters below.

Tickets to a Podcast Event

What could be more motivating for a podcaster than attending a podcast event? They'll get to see another podcaster in action, plus meet podcast fans (can you say networking opportunity?)

And before you ask, YES, there are still plenty of in-person podcast events taking place all over the world!

Score tickets to podcasts events AwesomeSeating.com (search "podcast" for a full list of upcoming events). What a cool gift idea!

Planners for scheduling & organizing

Like any other project or business venture, podcasting has a lot of "to-dos" and deadlines to meet. Keeping it all straight is easier with a planner.

I started using an old school paper planner this past year, and I'm so happy I did! I've been more productive and met my deadlines a LOT better than I did last year.

Female podcast hosts will love Erin Condren's fun and colorful planners. You can see a preview of each page layout in the planner before you purchase it. AND you can personalize the cover with the podcast name!

For something less flashy (and more typically macsuline), the Focused Planners are a great option.

Advice for getting creative

One last book recommendation. Bored and Brilliant: How spacing out can unlock your most productive & creative self is written by professional podcaster (and co-founder of Stable Genius Productions) Manoush Zomorodi. The book is a follow-up to a popular experiment she conducted with her podcast audience.

Zomorodi tackles smartphone use and why it limits our creativity. And creativity is important for podcasters! This book is interesting and funny, and has great advice for unplugging from technology to plug into the creative parts of the brain.

I hope this gift guide will help you find a gift that the podcaster in your life will love! Don't forget to check back for updates whenever you need a new gift for a podcast host!
